The Last Toast

In Pinewell, a small town where everyone knows their neighbors, secrets rarely stay buried forever.

Rose Winter, an archivist and historian, has recently moved to Pinewell hoping for a fresh start. Her new position cataloguing historical records for the local historical society seems like the perfect opportunity to settle into a quieter life.

But her plans take an unexpected turn when Charles Ashcroft, a wealthy resident, asks her to authenticate an old document. What appears to be a straightforward assignment becomes far more complicated when Charles invites her to dinner to explain the document’s significance.

Before he can reveal what he’s discovered, Charles suddenly collapses and dies, leaving Rose with an unexplained death, a mysterious document, and questions about the town’s past.

As Rose investigates, she discovers that some of Pinewell’s history has been deliberately concealed. Someone has gone to considerable lengths to keep certain information hidden, and Charles may have uncovered something that was never meant to come to light.

Determined to understand what Charles discovered, Rose must piece together the clues, identify who wanted the truth suppressed, and decide whether pursuing the mystery is worth the danger of disturbing secrets that others would prefer remain forgotten.
