Stop Trying to Be a Better Christian
Book Description
Faith is not a competition, and a relationship with God cannot be measured by how successfully someone follows a set of religious expectations.
In Stop Trying to Be a Better Christian, Matt Mason challenges the belief that becoming a stronger Christian is primarily a matter of greater discipline, determination, or personal achievement. His 60-day devotional examines how a believer’s understanding of Jesus Christ influences the way they approach everyday life.
Using biblical passages as the foundation for each reading, Mason considers the struggles that can cause Christians to question their spiritual progress and misunderstand their relationship with God. He encourages readers to examine their beliefs, recognize the limitations of self-reliance, and develop a clearer understanding of the gospel.
This devotional is intended for Christians who want to deepen their knowledge of Scripture and approach their faith with greater sincerity. Its central message is that a believer’s standing before God rests on Jesus Christ, not on an ongoing attempt to earn His acceptance.
About the Author
Matt Mason is an Australian Christian writer and Bible teacher whose ministry focuses on helping believers understand Scripture and develop a faith rooted in Jesus Christ.
As the founder of Lion of Fire Ministries, Matt has built a YouTube ministry reaching more than 100,000 subscribers and generating over 20 million views. His teaching emphasizes biblical truth, repentance, and the importance of looking beyond popular messages of personal success to understand the gospel more deeply.
Matt became a Christian in 2005. A decade later, his life changed dramatically when he developed serious health problems following a period of burnout. Diagnosed with Lyme disease, he experienced prolonged illness that sometimes left him unable to leave his home or bed. Those difficult years challenged and reshaped his understanding of dependence on God, spiritual identity, and perseverance.
His experiences, combined with his concern about superficial approaches to Christian teaching, continue to influence his writing and ministry. Through his work, Matt encourages Christians to examine their beliefs in light of Scripture and recognize that their identity and purpose rest in Christ rather than their own accomplishments.
